After the Baby Arrives: Your Recovery Matters Too
In the weeks and months after giving birth, all eyes tend to be on the baby — and understandably so! But new mothers need care, attention, and support too. The postpartum period — often called the “fourth trimester” — is a profound physical and emotional transition, and it deserves as much attention as pregnancy itself.
At our women’s health clinic in Vasant Kunj, Delhi, we offer dedicated postpartum care that honours the full experience of new motherhood: the joy, the exhaustion, the healing, and everything in between.
Physical Recovery After Delivery
Whether you had a vaginal delivery or a C-section, your body has just been through something extraordinary. Physical recovery takes time, and having the right medical support makes the process smoother and safer.
Our postpartum care includes wound check and care for episiotomy or C-section incisions, management of postpartum bleeding, support for urinary or bowel issues that can arise after birth, pelvic floor assessment and referral for physiotherapy if needed, anaemia management and nutritional support, and thyroid and hormonal monitoring, as postpartum thyroid changes are more common than many women realise.
We schedule your first postnatal check at 6 weeks — but we are always available earlier if you have concerns.
Breastfeeding Support
Breastfeeding is deeply rewarding but can also be physically demanding and emotionally challenging — particularly in the early days. Latching difficulties, nipple pain, concerns about milk supply, and mastitis are all common issues that new mothers face and that can significantly affect their confidence and wellbeing.
Our team provides personalised breastfeeding support and can refer you to a lactation consultant when needed. If you choose not to breastfeed, or are unable to, we provide supportive, non-judgmental guidance on formula feeding and ensure your baby is getting the nutrition they need.
Postpartum Mental Health: The Conversation We Need to Have
Postpartum depression, anxiety, and the general emotional rollercoaster of new motherhood affect far more women than statistics suggest — because so many suffer in silence. Feeling overwhelmed, tearful, disconnected, or even resentful does not make you a bad mother. It makes you human.
At our clinic, we screen for postpartum depression and anxiety at every postnatal visit. We provide a completely safe, non-judgmental space to talk about how you’re feeling, and we can connect you with the right support — whether that’s counselling, peer support groups, or medical management — without delay.
